'Ofa-He-Paea Drop In Center
The Paea he ‘Ofa Drop In Centre was opened by Her Royal Highness Prince Salote Mafile’o Pilolevu in 2013, as a safe haven for Leitis living in Tonga. Also serving as the main office of the Tonga Leitis Association, it provides a refuge space for Leitis who have been cast out of their own homes because of their sexual orientation, gender identity and expression.
While we do not have full time staff at this stage, anyone with a diverse sexual orientation, gender identity or expression is free to come in to collect condoms or receive peer to peer counseling. We also have some materials available at the Centre for those that are still questioning their Gender Identities or their Sexual Orientation.TLA is also fighting to end the Gender Base Violence against Women ,young girls and young boys and also Leitis. We do counselling for our members and for non-members in sexual abuse and physical abuse. TLA is also working close with the Domestic Violence Unit at the Ministry of Police to make surethe inclusive of their service on people with sexual orientation and gender identities and gender expression.
The centre also has computers for members to use with free hi-speed internet provided.
While we only provide referral services at this stage, we hope to expand the services of the Drop In Centre in the near future to include in house health services.
We are located on Railway Road, next to SouthPac Builders store. Drop in and say Hello Lei!
